The 8 Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force (JTF) North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) has strengthened its operational capability with the successful graduation of 60 soldiers from its Fourth Quarter Basic Battle Course. The ceremony marked the end of an intensive nine-week training programme designed to instil the warrior ethos and sharpen the combat readiness of troops.

In a statement, the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 JTF (NW) OPFY, Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, expressed deep satisfaction with the achievements of the Division Training School.

Addressing the graduates, the GOC commended the school’s improved infrastructure and training standards, noting that these enhancements are reflected in the Division’s operational successes.

Major General Ajose urged the new graduates to apply their newly acquired skills in the field and to serve as role models for their colleagues. “Share your knowledge, especially in weapon handling and live-arms drills, and let your discipline be an example to others,” he charged.

Earlier, the Acting Division Training Officer, Lieutenant Colonel David Ezebuche, highlighted that the nine-week course was structured not only to impart tactical knowledge but also to forge a resilient mindset rooted in personal courage, self-discipline, confidence, and teamwork—core elements of the warrior ethos.

The ceremony featured tactical demonstrations by the graduating soldiers before an audience of formation commanders and staff officers. Outstanding performers were honoured with awards, with Lance Corporal Abubakar Rabiu emerging as the Best Graduating Student. Sapper Popoola Ayomide placed second, while Private Edore Ogbenefejiro came third.

The event, attended by formation commanders, senior officers, and invited guests, concluded with the presentation of certificates and group photographs.
