Nigeria and Finland have taken another significant step toward strengthening their long-standing diplomatic relations as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD, on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, hosted the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Her Excellency Ms Sanna Selin, at Tafawa Balewa House in Abuja.
In a statement by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, anipr, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the high-level meeting featured extensive discussions across key strategic sectors.
Both parties explored opportunities for deeper cooperation in digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, internal security technology, sustainable mining, healthcare development, renewable energy, agriculture, and broader multilateral engagements.
Ambassador Selin also announced Finland’s plan to open a Trade Office in Lagos and briefed the Ministry on her engagements across various Nigerian regions.
Ambassador Ahmed reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with Finland to consolidate existing initiatives and unlock new paths for mutually beneficial partnership.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing optimism that Nigeria–Finland relations are entering a new phase—anchored on shared aspirations, complementary strengths, and a renewed dedication to advancing innovation, economic growth, peace, and global cooperation.
