Police Bust Child-Stealing Syndicate, Rescue 3-Year-Old Boy in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six suspects linked to a notorious child-stealing and trafficking syndicate operating across Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos States. The Command also successfully rescued a three-year-old boy earlier reported stolen in Anambra.

Police spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the arrest followed a petition received on September 4, 2025, from the victim’s family.

According to the report, the complainant’s daughter had left her three-year-old son in the care of one Samuel Ibe of Umusiome, Nkpor Uno, while she went to her shop. Upon her return, both the child and the caretaker were missing.

Swift action by operatives of the Gender Unit, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Awka, led to the arrest of Samuel Ibe, whose confession facilitated the apprehension of his mother, Agatha Ejeweh (35), and his younger brother, Ejeweh Chigozie Chidera (15).

Further investigations extended to Enugu State, where one Angela Eze (30) was arrested for collaborating with another suspect, Juliet Onah, in arranging the transfer of the stolen child to Lagos. Acting on credible intelligence, detectives stormed Lagos State, where China Cosmas was arrested and the missing child rescued safely.

The boy has since been reunited with his family in good health, while all six suspects are in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He warned criminals to steer clear of the state, stressing that “Anambra remains unsafe for any form of criminal enterprise.”
