The Lagos State Police Command, on Saturday, 29 November 2025, held a 5km Walkathon Against Gender-Based Violence in partnership with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA). The event formed part of the activities marking the 70th anniversary of Nigeria Police Women, celebrating seven decades of resilience, courage, and exceptional service to the nation.
In a press statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, noted that policewomen across the Command turned out in large numbers, demonstrating unity of purpose and a renewed commitment to combating all forms of gender-based violence in the state.
The walkathon was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who joined the women to reinforce his support for their advocacy efforts. He was accompanied by ACP Mary Ayim, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration) and the most senior female officer in the Command, along with female Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and other female personnel.
Beginning at the State Headquarters and moving through Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, the participants engaged members of the public, distributing sensitisation materials and amplifying the call for collective action to end gender-based violence.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting women in policing and sustaining collaborations with relevant agencies to ensure the safety and protection of all residents, especially survivors of gender-based violence.
