The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration following a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin, to the Service’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
The visit, which focused on boosting cooperation in strategic communications and public engagement, highlighted the importance of unity among security agencies in building public trust and safeguarding national interests
Welcoming the Police spokesperson, the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, praised CSP Hundeyin for his humility and sense of responsibility since assuming office. Drawing from his own experience, AC Maiwada offered words of encouragement, stressing that public relations in the security sector comes with unique challenges.
“Public relations is a continuous learning curve. You will encounter stakeholders with diverse expectations, but teamwork is the bedrock of success. Build a strong, dedicated team, tap into the energy of young officers, and seek wisdom from those who came before you. These steps are vital to creating a lasting legacy as a spokesperson,” Maiwada advised.
He also spoke on the demanding nature of the job, particularly during crises, urging the new FPRO to remain professional, resilient, and focused.
“Ours is a transient role, but what endures is the reputation we build and the legacy we leave behind,” he added.
In his remarks, CSP Hundeyin expressed appreciation for the warm reception and underscored the need for stronger collaboration between both agencies.
“Security communication cannot thrive in isolation. The Police and Customs must work hand-in-hand to advance our shared national goals,” he stated.
The visit ended with a tour of the Service’s Public Relations Sub-unit and the Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN), giving the Police spokesperson a firsthand look at the Customs’ growing communication infrastructure.
The engagement signals a renewed effort by both institutions to foster unity, improve public confidence, and enhance coordination in Nigeria’s security architecture.
