The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Rear Admiral Robert Obeya Obeya, has stressed the urgent need to upgrade training aids and facilities in naval institutions to meet global best practices.

Rear Admiral Obeya made the call during his ongoing familiarisation tour of formations under his command.

On Wednesday, 13 August 2025, he visited the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) QUORRA in Apapa, Lagos State, and the Underwater Warfare School at Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos. The following day, he paid a courtesy visit to the Olota of Ota in Ogun State.

Continuing the tour, the FOC NAVTRAC was at the Nigerian Navy Logistics College (NNLC), Dawakin Tofa, Kano State, on Monday, 18 August, where he commissioned a newly installed 4.5KVA solar power system at the College’s Galley. The project, according to him, is a strategic initiative to enhance electricity supply and boost operational efficiency.

On Tuesday, 19 August, Rear Admiral Obeya proceeded to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna State. He was received at the Naval Wing by the Chief Instructor, Captain Murtala Tafida Suleiman, before touring the Nigerian Navy Simulation Centre.

He later visited the NDA Hall of Fame, where he lauded the Commandant for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to grooming future leaders for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Rear Admiral Obeya reaffirmed NAVTRAC’s commitment to continuous improvement in naval training and development, while emphasizing the importance of modern facilities in shaping competent naval personnel.
