In a renewed push to consolidate military gains in the fight against insurgency, the Chiefs of Operations from the Defence and Services Headquarters have conducted a two-day operational assessment visit to troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The high-powered delegation, led by the Chief of Defence Operations (CDOPS), Major General Emeka Onumajuru, arrived the North-East theatre from 13 to 14 August 2025 to evaluate progress, address operational challenges, and strengthen coordination in the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

Speaking during the visit, Maj Gen Onumajuru conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa OFR, and all Service Chiefs to commanders, officers, and personnel of OPHK for their relentless commitment to restoring peace in the region.

He urged troops to “sustain the tempo of operations” and “retain the initiative at all times,” stressing that the ultimate goal remained the restoration of normalcy and socio-economic activities in the North-East. He assured the Theatre Command that challenges raised during the visit would receive due attention at the highest military levels.

In their separate remarks, the Chiefs of Operations for the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force lauded the relative peace attained in the region, attributing it to the dedication and synergy among the Services and other security agencies.

Earlier, Theatre Commander, Maj Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar, described the visit as timely, noting that the achievements recorded under OPHK were the result of joint dedication, professionalism, and sacrifice. He reaffirmed the commitment of the theatre to sustaining operational successes.

Operation HADIN KAI Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Captain REUBEN KOVANGIYA in a press statement said that the two-day engagement featured an interactive dinner in honour of the visiting chiefs and resource persons at Major General MSA Aliyu Hall, Officers’ Mess and Suites. The event provided field commanders an opportunity to share operational experiences and strategise for improved outcomes.

Highlights of the visit included presentation of operational briefs, interactive sessions, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs.

The assessment was attended by senior military officers, commanders, and staff officers of OPHK, among others.
