Minor Explosion at Ilese Barracks Contained — No Casualties Recorded

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a minor explosion followed by a brief fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 14 August 2025, at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

According to Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the incident took place within one of the storage buildings of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.

She explained that the swift intervention of troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, working in tandem with the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, ensured the fire was quickly brought under control.

“No lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained. The structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials. A detailed assessment is underway to determine the extent of material loss,” the statement read.

The Army urged residents of Ilese and neighbouring communities to remain calm, assuring that a thorough investigation has commenced to determine the cause and prevent a recurrence.
