COAS Lt. Gen Oluyede, Buratai Inaugurate Army War College Alumni Association

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, alongside former COAS, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), on Thursday, 14 August 2025, officially inaugurated the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Alumni Association at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai Auditorium, AWCN, Asokoro, Abuja.

The historic event was graced by Lt Gen Buratai, who founded the College during his tenure as COAS, serving as the Special Guest of Honour. The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, top government officials, and invited dignitaries.

In his keynote address, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Oluyede commended the vision of his predecessor, Lt Gen Buratai, for establishing the College, noting that the Alumni Association will serve as a platform for collaboration, mentorship, and continued capacity development for senior military leaders.

In his remarks, the Commandant of AWCN, Major General Umar Muhammed Alkali, described the formation of the Alumni Association as “a strategic step towards harnessing the collective expertise of past graduates for the advancement of national security and military professionalism.”

Highlights of the inauguration included an inaugural lecture titled “Strategic Value of Alumni Networks in National Security Development” delivered by Brigadier General J.N. Temiang (Rtd).

The event also witnessed the formal presentation of the AWCN Alumni Handbook and the Mentorship Framework aimed at strengthening professional ties among graduates.

The AWCN Alumni Association is expected to foster stronger professional networks among graduates and contribute to Nigeria’s defence and security policy discourse.
