Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have rescued a 20-year-old Fulani man who was shot by suspected Berom armed assailants at Rakum Junction in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2026, when troops responded to a report of an attack on a Fulani resident at the junction.
Upon arrival at the scene, the troops found the victim, identified as Ismail Zakaria, a 20-year-old resident of Tafawa village, with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
Preliminary information indicated that Zakaria was attacked at Rakum Junction while returning to his village.
The troops immediately rescued him and evacuated him to Sauki Clinic in Katako town, where he is currently receiving medical treatment and responding to treatment.
Security personnel have commenced efforts to identify, track and apprehend the attackers.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where isolated attacks and reprisals involving different communities have continued to threaten civilian safety.
The military response prevented the incident from resulting in further harm to the victim and demonstrates the importance of rapid intervention and medical evacuation in responding to attacks along vulnerable routes.
