The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has charged Nigeria’s Defence Section at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations to sustain its professionalism and contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening the country’s role in global peacekeeping and international security.
Musa made the commitment on Tuesday during an operational visit to the Defence Section at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations in New York, following his attendance at the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
According to the S A on Media to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the Minister, who is in New York as part of the Nigerian delegation led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, received a comprehensive briefing on the strategic activities and operational commitments of the Defence Section from Nigeria’s Defence Attaché, Brig.-Gen. E.A. Koleosho.
During the engagement, Musa commended Koleosho and his team for what he described as their exemplary professionalism, loyalty and commitment to upholding the ideals of the United Nations and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He reiterated the resolve of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restore and expand Nigeria’s active footprint in international peace and security efforts.
According to him, the Federal Government remains committed to reinvigorating Nigeria’s participation in peacekeeping operations across the globe as part of efforts to promote stability and security.
The Minister’s visit underscores the importance attached to Nigeria’s continued engagement with the United Nations and its peace and security architecture.
