The Nigeria Police Force has reported a series of operational successes across 15 states, including the foiling of kidnapping attempts, rescue of victims, arrests of suspected criminals, recovery of firearms and ammunition, and ongoing operations to locate abducted and missing persons.
The incidents, recorded between September 23 and 27, 2026, were contained in a state-by-state operational update issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
In Katsina State, police operatives and tactical teams responded to an attempted kidnapping at Sabon Gari Maikomo Village on September 25. The operatives engaged the suspected bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into the bush. One injured victim was evacuated to a General Hospital for treatment.
In Benue State, two suspected cultists were arrested on September 26 after police responded to a distress call concerning two individuals allegedly brandishing a firearm at a youth executive election meeting. A locally fabricated pistol was recovered from the suspects.
In Ebonyi State, police arrested two suspects allegedly linked to the abduction and sexual assault of two female victims. The suspects, victims and case file were transferred to the State CID in Abakaliki for discreet investigation.
The police also recorded successes in Oyo State, where a suspect was arrested during a stop-and-search operation along the Ibadan-Ife Expressway. A locally made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered. In a separate operation along the Igboora-Eruwa Expressway, two suspected electrical cable vandals were arrested and suspected vandalised aluminium conductor wire recovered.
Another operation in Oyo State led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with an attempted murder incident at Balose Village. The injured victim was evacuated to Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, for medical treatment.
In Kano State, police patrol operatives mobilised to Kofar Mata following a mob attack and rescued an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who had been caught in the incident. The officer was evacuated for medical treatment, while normalcy was restored and the area placed under close police monitoring.
Meanwhile, rescue and tracking operations are continuing in several states following reported abductions and attacks.
In Kebbi State, police tactical units and vigilantes mobilised to Dadin Kowa Village following an attack, with ongoing bush-combing operations aimed at rescuing abducted victims and apprehending the perpetrators.
In Kwara State, police operatives, vigilantes and forest guards are conducting bush-combing operations following an abduction reported on September 24. A separate operation on September 27 is also underway along the Eruku/Koro Road following an attack, with security personnel searching for seven missing persons.
In Enugu State, operatives of the Police VCRU were deployed following the abduction of a female victim. Tracking and bush-combing operations are ongoing to locate and rescue the victim.
Anambra State also recorded an ongoing rescue operation after six persons were abducted on September 25. Police operatives, working with other security personnel, commenced bush-combing operations to locate the victims and apprehend the suspects.
In Kogi State, four kidnapped victims escaped from their captors on September 25. Police and other security forces subsequently mobilised to the area and commenced bush-combing and clearance operations.
In Niger State, combined teams of police, military personnel and local vigilantes responded to a reported terrorist attack at Saminaka Village. Joint security teams are currently tracking the perpetrators.
In Bayelsa State, search and rescue operations are ongoing following a boat mishap on the Oporoma River.
The Nigeria Police Force said the various operations demonstrate the continued deployment of tactical teams and collaboration with other security agencies, vigilantes and local communities to respond to security incidents, rescue victims and apprehend suspected perpetrators.
The Force said investigations into the incidents are ongoing at the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments (SCIDs).
