Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have intensified counter-insurgency operations against Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists across the North-East, neutralising 152 terrorists and arresting 142 suspects during sustained operations in August 2026.
The operations also resulted in the surrender of 219 terrorists, as troops combined ground offensives, intelligence-led actions and air operations to disrupt terrorist activities and degrade their operational capabilities across the theatre.
Operational data showed that troops conducted 10 air interdictions during the month and successfully neutralised nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs), preventing the devices from being used against troops and civilians.
The destruction of the IEDs also helped secure major roads and movement corridors frequently used by security personnel and local residents, reducing the threat posed to commuters, farmers and other civilians.
The troops further recovered 58 weapons and explosive items, including AK-47 and AK-49 rifles, locally fabricated firearms, a hand grenade and an RPG bomb. They also recovered 1,184 rounds of ammunition during the operations.
Other items recovered included 16 mobility assets, 44 mobile phones, a Sony video camcorder and ₦1,794,910 in cash.
The recoveries are expected to support ongoing intelligence efforts aimed at identifying terrorist logistics networks, collaborators and other elements sustaining insurgent activities in the region.
The military’s sustained pressure has also forced terrorist elements to operate under increasingly difficult conditions, restricting their freedom of movement and limiting their ability to mount attacks and sustain their operations.
The surrender of 219 terrorists represents another significant dimension of the campaign, potentially providing security agencies with valuable intelligence on the structures, movements and logistics of the insurgent groups while reducing the manpower available to the organisations.
The August results underscore the multi-dimensional strategy of Operation Hadin Kai, which combines offensive ground operations, air interdictions, intelligence gathering and community-supported security efforts.
The campaign is aimed at degrading the fighting capabilities of ISWAP and Boko Haram, securing affected communities and creating conditions for the safe return of displaced persons, restoration of economic activities and resumption of normal livelihoods across the North-East.
With the persistent threat posed by IEDs along roads and rural pathways, the destruction of the devices remains particularly important to the safety of troops and civilians.
As Operation Hadin Kai continues its counter-insurgency campaign, the August operational gains demonstrate the military’s continued focus on dismantling terrorist logistics, degrading their combat capabilities and compelling insurgents to abandon the battlefield.
The ultimate objective remains to deny terrorist groups the ability to threaten communities, reclaim areas affected by insurgency and create a secure environment for sustainable recovery and development across the North-East.
