Troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist strongholds in Sokoto State, dislodging terrorist elements and recovering high-calibre weapons, ammunition and motorcycles during clearance operations in Tangaza Local Government Area.
The operation targeted known terrorist enclaves around Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya forest axis. According to the military, troops made contact with the terrorists in the forest and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the fighters to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
A subsequent search of the area yielded a cache of weapons and logistics believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. Recovered items included a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and other assorted logistical items.
The military said the operation represents another push to deny terrorists freedom of movement and disrupt their ability to operate within communities in the North-West.
Troops have subsequently maintained a strong presence in the area and continued patrols and surveillance operations aimed at consolidating the gains and ensuring the safety of surrounding communities.
The development underscores the ongoing military campaign to clear terrorist enclaves and restore security across vulnerable areas of the North-West.
