The Federal High Court in Abuja is set to deliver judgment on a suit seeking an order compelling the Nigeria Police Force to reopen investigations into the death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The judgment in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/636/2026 is scheduled for September 29, 2026, before Justice James Omotosho at Court 8 of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The suit was instituted by the Break The Silence Foundation against the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, among others.
According to the Convener and President of the foundation, Yomi Fabiyi, the organisation is seeking an order of mandamus compelling the police to reopen the case, investigate persons who were within the deceased's residence in the 24 hours preceding his death, apply the doctrine of last seen and examine what it describes as multiple credible new leads.
The foundation is also asking that all persons found culpable in the alleged killing and obstruction of justice be prosecuted before a competent court.
Fabiyi said the fresh investigation was initiated following a directive from the Presidency based on a petition submitted by the foundation, separate from an earlier investigation conducted by the Lagos State Police Command.
He further claimed that the Homicide Department of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, commenced the investigation in May 2025 and had completed its report by June 2025.
According to him, the investigation identified eight persons allegedly linked to the death, with suspected offences including murder, theft, criminal conspiracy and concealment of evidence.
Fabiyi also alleged that three of the eight suspects, including Omowunmi Cynthia Adebanjo, were arrested between October and November 2025 after warrants of arrest were issued, but were subsequently granted bail without being charged to court.
He said alleged irregularities, delays and other concerns surrounding the handling of the case prompted the foundation to approach the Federal High Court.
The foundation said its legal team, led by Chief Tunde Falola of Tunde Falola & Co, alongside members of its Board of Trustees, volunteers, activists and supporters of the late singer, are expected to attend the proceedings.
The case has continued to attract public attention, with calls for a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad's death and accountability for anyone found responsible.
