The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the final stage of its 2025 recruitment exercise, with shortlisted candidates undergoing documentation, physical fitness assessments and medical screening at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The two-week exercise, which began on Monday, September 7, 2026, will run until September 19 and covers candidates shortlisted for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
To ensure an orderly process and prevent congestion, candidates are being screened in batches based on the alphabetical order of their states of origin.
Speaking at the screening centre, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, said the exercise would assess not only the physical fitness of candidates but also their character, discipline and professional conduct.
“On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I congratulate you on reaching this stage,” Onyeka said, urging candidates to remain orderly and comply strictly with the screening guidelines.
He stressed that candidates’ attitudes and conduct would form part of the criteria for determining those who would eventually join the Service.
Onyeka also disclosed that the NCS was working with the Customs Police and other relevant units to safeguard the integrity of the recruitment process.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Assistant Comptroller-General Dow Gaura, said administrative innovations and inter-agency collaboration had helped to streamline the exercise.
According to Gaura, the screening has so far been “seamless” and “hitch-free,” with no casualties recorded.
The screening of candidates for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs cadre is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, September 10, while assessments for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until September 19, 2026.
