Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have intensified counter-terrorism operations in Borno and Yobe states, neutralising terrorists, recovering weapons and arresting suspected logistics suppliers, informants and spies between August 31 and September 3, 2026.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement on ongoing military operations by the Armed Forces of Nigeria across the country.
Onoja said troops on September 1 encountered a command-detonated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Miyanti–Banki Junction Main Supply Route in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised, while troops recovered a rifle, ammunition and an IED initiator.
In Yobe State, troops also ambushed and neutralised a terrorist at Lamusuri Crossing Point in Gujba LGA, recovering a rifle and ammunition.
The military further recorded arrests and defections among terrorist elements during the period.
On August 31, troops intercepted an escapee around Sabsawa in Bama LGA who had fled terrorist captivity, reportedly due to hunger and hardship.
The same day, troops arrested a suspect in Konduga LGA while transporting foodstuffs allegedly destined for a terrorist enclave in Bama.
On September 1, troops arrested a suspected former terrorist fighter turned informant at Damasak in Mobbar LGA.
The Defence Media Operations Director said several terrorist fighters also surrendered to troops between September 1 and 2, while suspected logistics suppliers, informants and spies were arrested across the theatre following sustained military pressure.
A major development occurred on September 2 when 21 women and children surrendered to troops at Mafa in Dikwa LGA of Borno State.
According to Onoja, the group cited ongoing clashes between rival terrorist factions within the Yaganari enclave as the reason for their surrender.
Another escapee was intercepted near Amuda Bridge in Gwoza LGA on September 2 after fleeing terrorist captivity reportedly because of hunger and hardship.
On September 3, troops arrested a suspected terrorist spy loitering along the Kauwa–Kukawa Road in Kukawa LGA of Borno State.
The military said all surrendered persons and rescued victims had been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.
