Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a 20,000-litre fuel tanker loaded with 2,145 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in a compartment of the vehicle in Ondo State.

The tanker, marked MKA 960 XC, was intercepted along the Akoko-Lokoja Expressway after the driver allegedly refused to stop when directed by NDLEA officers.

The driver later abandoned the vehicle at a church premises in Ugbe Akoko and fled into the bush.

A search of the tanker uncovered 165 bags of cannabis hidden in a false compartment alongside its legitimate fuel cargo, which was reportedly destined for Jos, Plateau State.

In a separate operation at the Lagos port, NDLEA operatives intercepted another consignment containing 598.08kg of cannabis-infused cookies and gummies concealed in a 40-foot container.

The latest seizure was linked to three suspects already in NDLEA custody following the earlier interception of 842.54kg of cannabis-laced cookies at the same port.

The agency said the operations formed part of its sustained efforts to disrupt the movement and distribution of illicit drugs through Nigeria’s major transportation and commercial routes.
