President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over a fake anti-North statement allegedly attributed to him and circulated on social media.
In the petition signed by his Chief of Staff and made available to the media by his Special Assistant, Jackson Udom, Akpabio urged the DSS to urgently investigate the origin of the statement and identify those behind its creation and circulation.
The viral graphic falsely attributes to the Senate President a statement claiming that Northerners would be the hardest hit if President Bola Tinubu loses an election.
Akpabio’s office described the statement as completely fabricated, stressing that there is no video, audio recording, speech or credible report to support the claim.
It accused those responsible for the graphic of attempting to mislead the public and provoke regional tension.
The Senate President consequently called on security agencies to trace the source of the fabricated graphic and bring those responsible for its production and distribution to account.
