The Nigeria Police Force has intensified security operations in Kebbi State following a terrorist attack along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of 10 police officers and other civilians.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered increased intelligence gathering and coordinated operations to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks in the affected communities.

As part of the response, the IGP on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, deployed a high-level delegation led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Kebbi State.

The delegation met with Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, and other stakeholders to assess the security situation and strengthen ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable communities.

The DIG was also mandated to reinforce operational measures, improve intelligence coordination and ensure that security agencies take necessary steps to restore lasting peace across the affected areas.

During the engagement, the delegation conveyed the IGP’s condolences over the loss of the police personnel and civilians, assuring that the Force would deploy available operational and intelligence resources to identify, track and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The Nigeria Police Force said the sacrifice of the fallen officers would not be in vain, stressing that coordinated and intelligence-led operations would be intensified to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The IGP also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the welfare of the families of the deceased officers, assuring that they would receive the necessary support in line with established police welfare policies. He added that the service and sacrifice of the fallen personnel would be duly honoured.

Receiving the delegation, Governor Nasir Idris commended the police officers for their courage and sacrifice and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Police and other security agencies in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.

The governor pledged sustained collaboration with security agencies, particularly in intelligence sharing, operational support and efforts to prevent criminal elements from establishing or maintaining safe havens in the state.

The IGP expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Government for its continued partnership, while reiterating the resolve of the Nigeria Police Force to intensify coordinated and intelligence-driven operations against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.

The Force assured residents of Kebbi State and Nigerians that it remains committed to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, working closely with the state government, sister security agencies and local communities to strengthen security.

The Nigeria Police Force also expressed solidarity with the families of the fallen officers, assuring the public that every available effort would be deployed to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the attack.
