The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to sustaining its contributions to the U.S.-Nigeria Joint Working Group (JWG) roadmap on Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
The IGP made the commitment at the second meeting of the U.S.-Nigeria Joint Working Group held in Washington, D.C., where progress on the roadmap for the April–June 2026 reporting period was reviewed and areas for strengthened cooperation were explored.
The meeting was attended by Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Defence, as well as Service Chiefs and heads of other security and law-enforcement agencies.
Presenting the NPF’s contributions to the roadmap, IGP Disu highlighted sustained counter-kidnapping and anti-banditry operations, increased police presence in vulnerable communities, strengthened early-warning mechanisms and measures supporting the protection and safe return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the IGP disclosed that personnel from specialised police formations were deployed across vulnerable Local Government Areas during the reporting period to reinforce public safety and deter violent extremist and criminal groups.
Disu also disclosed that the recruitment of 50,000 police constables was advancing towards the final pre-training stage, with preparations underway for comprehensive training based on an improved curriculum and international best practices.
The IGP further highlighted the NPF’s contributions to the implementation of the JWG roadmap through professional policing, community protection, enhanced investigative capacity and support for Nigeria’s broader security and rule-of-law objectives.
He emphasised the importance of stronger community engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders, noting that public trust, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence remain critical to achieving sustainable security.
The IGP’s participation underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s continued role in strengthening Nigeria-U.S. security cooperation and advancing the objectives of the Joint Working Group roadmap.
