World PR Day 2026: Strategic Public Relations Critical to National Development — Lagos NIPR Chairman

0 Admin

The Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Samuel Ayetutu, has called on Public Relations practitioners across Nigeria to embrace strategic communication, professionalism and ethical practice as essential tools for national development.

In a message to commemorate the 2026 World Public Relations Day, Dr. Ayetutu congratulated Public Relations professionals, particularly members of the Lagos State Chapter of the NIPR, for their commitment to advancing the profession and promoting effective communication.

Speaking on this year’s theme, “The Golden Age of Strategic PR,” the Lagos NIPR Chairman described Public Relations as a vital leadership function that has evolved beyond publicity and media relations to become a strategic discipline that shapes public policy, supports organisational decision-making, manages crises and builds lasting trust.

He noted that in an era marked by misinformation, declining public trust and increasingly complex social challenges, Public Relations professionals have a critical role in fostering understanding, strengthening stakeholder engagement and promoting peaceful coexistence.

According to him, strategic Public Relations remains indispensable to Nigeria’s development, particularly in building confidence, encouraging citizen engagement, supporting good governance and driving sustainable economic growth.

Dr. Ayetutu urged practitioners to recommit themselves to the profession’s core values of integrity, accountability, truth and excellence, stressing that ethical conduct remains the foundation of credible Public Relations practice.

He also called on members of the Institute to support the NIPR’s ongoing efforts to eliminate quackery within the profession, emphasizing that safeguarding professional standards is a collective responsibility that will enhance public confidence in Public Relations.

On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Lagos State Chapter of the NIPR, Dr. Ayetutu wished all practitioners a fulfilling World Public Relations Day celebration and encouraged them to continue promoting excellence and strategic communication in service to society.
