The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities across the state with the arrest of 202 suspects during an intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts, black spots, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens in Asaba, while also impounding 25 vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles for various traffic violations.

The operation, carried out on Saturday, July 4, 2026, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, alongside officers of the Command, following credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID).

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the coordinated operation targeted identified criminal hideouts within the Asaba metropolis as part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

The raid resulted in the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 males and 100 females, for offences ranging from operating brothels to the possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, as well as other related crimes.

The police also impounded 25 vehicles, including five motor vehicles, ten tricycles and ten motorcycles, for violating existing traffic regulations, the state government’s restriction on tricycle operations, and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.

Speaking on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained enforcement against all forms of criminality across Delta State.

He assured residents that the Command would continue to intensify operations aimed at denying criminals safe havens while ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support the Police by providing credible and timely information that would aid proactive crime prevention and effective law enforcement.
