The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Ridwan Disu, has held a strategic security meeting with senior police officers in Osogbo, directing an immediate intensification of security operations to tackle rising criminal activities and ensure a peaceful governorship election in Osun State on August 15, 2026.

The meeting, held at the Zone XI Headquarters in Osogbo, brought together the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone XI, AIG Fasuba Akinyele Olabode; the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), AIG Femi Haruna; the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan; the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga; and the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu.

According to a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji, the meeting was convened as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal security and guarantee a peaceful, credible and violence-free electoral process in Osun State.

Deliberations centred on the prevailing security challenges in the state, including recent incidents of killings, cult-related violence and other criminal activities threatening public safety.

Expressing concern over the security situation, IGP Disu reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace and public confidence, noting that the Nigeria Police Force would not allow criminal elements to undermine security or disrupt the democratic process.

The Inspector-General directed the AIG in charge of Zone XI and the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, to immediately intensify security operations, deploy proactive policing strategies and mobilise all available resources to combat criminality and restore lasting peace across the state.

He also charged police commanders to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve operational coordination and ensure adequate deployment of personnel to secure lives, property and critical electoral infrastructure before, during and after the August 15 governorship election.

Responding on behalf of the senior officers, AIG Fasuba Akinyele Olabode thanked the Inspector-General for the strategic engagement and assured him that Zone XI and the Osun State Police Command would fully implement the directives.

He pledged that comprehensive security measures would be put in place to curb criminal activities and guarantee a peaceful and secure environment for residents and all stakeholders throughout the election period.
