The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Judiciary to strengthen Nigeria’s criminal justice system, improve investigations, and ensure timely dispensation of justice.
Disu made the call during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce institutional cooperation in advancing the rule of law and effective criminal justice administration.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, the Inspector-General commended the Judiciary’s leadership for its commitment to judicial integrity, constitutional governance, and the administration of justice.
The IGP noted that the Police and the Judiciary remain indispensable partners within the criminal justice system and stressed the need for sustained collaboration to improve the quality of criminal investigations, strengthen prosecution support, and enhance the timely delivery of justice.
He also underscored the importance of the effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and corresponding state laws, describing them as critical tools for improving efficiency and reducing delays in criminal proceedings across the country.
Highlighting ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, Disu said the Force has continued to invest in forensic science, intelligence-led policing, digital investigation capabilities, and other modern policing initiatives aimed at improving investigative standards and supporting successful prosecution of criminal cases.
The Inspector-General further advocated closer collaboration between the Police and the Judiciary in the adoption of technology, knowledge-sharing, and capacity-building programmes to strengthen the country’s criminal justice delivery system.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to working closely with the Judiciary and other critical stakeholders to uphold the rule of law, enhance public confidence in the justice system, and build a safer, more secure, and more just society.
