Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected military impostor during a routine fighting patrol in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, by troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Malumfashi while conducting patrol operations within Malumfashi town.
According to the sources, the suspect drew the attention of the troops after he was spotted wearing a woodland camouflage three-quarter short, prompting further questioning and a search.
Items recovered from the suspect include a fake Nigerian Army identity card, four Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, a woodland camouflage three-quarter short, a wristwatch, and the sum of ₦17,000 in cash.
The suspect, along with the recovered exhibits, has been taken into military custody for further investigation to determine the extent of his activities and possible criminal links.
Military sources stated that the arrest is part of the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb the impersonation of military personnel and other criminal activities across the area, reaffirming the commitment of the Armed Forces to safeguarding public trust and enhancing security in Katsina State.
