The Police Command in Ogun State has detained 31 foreign nationals suspected of residing in the country without valid immigration documents following a raid in Atan Ota area of the state.

Police sources said the operation was carried out at about 11:30 p.m. on June 1 after security personnel received information from residents about the presence of a group of foreigners in Kajola Ilese, Atan Ota.

According to the sources, the Divisional Police Officer promptly deployed a surveillance team led by the Incident Duty Officer, ASP Dosumu Akinlolu, to verify the report.

During the operation, the team located 31 individuals comprising 12 women and 19 men, all estimated to be between 25 and 35 years old, in an apartment within the community.

The individuals were subsequently taken to the police station for screening and verification.

Preliminary checks reportedly revealed that none of the persons was in possession of valid immigration documents. The group, however, claimed to be nationals of Côte d’Ivoire who entered Nigeria to engage in online business activities.

Police authorities said the individuals were placed in protective custody pending their transfer to immigration authorities for further processing and verification of their status.

The case is expected to be handed over to the appropriate office of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Idiroko for further investigation and necessary action.
