The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing operational effectiveness through innovative training programmes and stronger collaboration with other security agencies to address emerging security challenges across the country.
The Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Maj.-Gen. Olurotimi Awolo, made this known on Thursday during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Operations Planning Cadre held in Doma, Nasarawa State.
He said the training was designed to equip junior commanders with advanced operational and logistics planning skills required for effective performance in joint and multi-dimensional operational environments.
Awolo explained that the cadre brought together participants and resource persons from various security organisations to exchange professional knowledge and strengthen operational synergy.
According to him, the Nigerian Army must continually adapt to changing security dynamics through continuous training and retraining of its personnel alongside officers from sister security agencies.
He said the programme focused on tactical leadership, operational planning, battlefield intelligence, logistics preparation, combat estimates, manoeuvrist warfare and operational design concepts. These areas, he noted, were carefully selected to address operational, intelligence and logistics challenges that could affect mission success in both conventional and asymmetric warfare.
Speaking on the theme, “Tactical Leadership Capacity Building and Multi-Agency Approach to Asymmetric Operations in Joint Operations Area,” Awolo expressed confidence that participants had enhanced their capabilities in operational planning, intelligence gathering, logistics management and battlefield appreciation. He added that the Nigerian Army remained committed to defending the country’s territorial integrity while supporting civil authorities in maintaining law and order whenever required.
The commander commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for his support towards the successful conduct of the cadre and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in their various formations, particularly during joint operations. A participant from the Nigeria Police Force, DSP Chukwu Friday Ogbonna, described the training as valuable, saying it reinforced the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating insecurity and improving national security operations.
