EFCC to Arraign Suspect, Two Firms Over Alleged ISIS Terrorism Financing

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign a suspect and two companies over their alleged involvement in financing the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), in a move aimed at intensifying Nigeria’s crackdown on terrorism financing.

The development follows enhanced intelligence-sharing and collaboration between Nigerian security agencies and the United States to dismantle financial networks linked to terrorist organisations operating within and outside the country.

A source familiar with the investigation disclosed that the planned prosecution is the outcome of extensive intelligence gathering and joint investigations conducted by Nigerian authorities and their international partners. According to the source, the EFCC has concluded investigations and is preparing to file charges against the suspect and the companies allegedly linked to ISIS.

“The EFCC will soon file charges against a suspect and two companies linked with ISIS in the country. The investigation has been concluded, and the necessary legal processes are being finalised,” the source said, adding that the information recently made public by the United States had long been known to Nigerian intelligence agencies.

The planned prosecution is expected to reinforce the Federal Government’s commitment to combating terrorism financing and disrupting the financial networks that sustain extremist groups. Security analysts believe successful prosecution of those involved will strengthen public confidence in the government’s determination to tackle terrorism through coordinated intelligence, law enforcement, and judicial measures while enhancing national security.
