The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has pledged to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s partnership with retired military officers, strategic stakeholders and international defence institutions as part of efforts to enhance national security and tackle the country’s evolving security challenges.
Speaking on Wednesday while receiving the leadership of the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) Alumni Association of Nigeria at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu said the experience and strategic expertise of veterans remain invaluable in developing sustainable solutions to contemporary security threats.
The Army Chief stressed that addressing today’s complex security environment requires stronger collaboration, professional knowledge and the collective contributions of serving personnel, retired officers and development partners.
He noted that the Nigerian Army would continue to leverage the institutional knowledge of veterans in military strategy, defence planning and national security management.
Shaibu also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to expanding professional military education through deeper engagement with reputable international institutions, including the Royal College of Defence Studies.
He explained that exposure to global best practices, emerging security trends and strategic-level training would help build a more adaptive, professional and mission-ready force capable of meeting Nigeria’s security objectives.
Earlier, President of the RCDS Alumni Association of Nigeria, retired Maj.-Gen. O.O. Oshinowo, pledged the association’s continued support for national security through strategic policy advice, professional expertise and research-based recommendations.
He commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their sustained operational successes against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality, expressing confidence that ongoing military operations would continue to degrade criminal networks and promote lasting peace, stability and national development.
