The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel and operational assets to Plateau State following recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to restoring peace and bringing those responsible to justice.
The directive also mandated the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo F. Morris, to conduct an operational assessment of the affected communities. In a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, the police said AIG Morris visited Kawel Community in Mushere District on Tuesday, June 23, where he met with traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to assess the security situation and strengthen measures aimed at restoring normalcy.
During the visit, AIG Morris conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General of Police and the Force Management Team to families affected by the attacks. He assured residents that the Nigeria Police Force was committed to apprehending those behind the violence, stressing that all lawful measures were being deployed to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
The statement noted that the additional deployment of security personnel and assets would reinforce ongoing operations in Bokkos and neighbouring communities, improve security presence and enhance efforts to protect lives and property. The AIG also appealed to residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding and refrain from reprisals that could undermine ongoing security operations.
As part of his engagement in Plateau State, AIG Morris paid courtesy visits to Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, CFR, where he conveyed the condolences of the Force leadership and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to working closely with the state government, traditional institutions and other security agencies to address security challenges and sustain lasting peace across the state.
