The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Supervising DIG for the South-West Zone, Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to sustaining peace, strengthening public confidence, and ensuring professional policing across Osun State.
Speaking during an official duty tour to the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo, the DIG conveyed the goodwill of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and commended the Command for maintaining a relatively peaceful security environment despite emerging challenges.
Addressing officers, stakeholders and members of the media, Adegoke described the visit as both official and personally significant, noting his connection to Osun State while stressing that the safety and security of all residents remain his primary responsibility.
He acknowledged recent cult-related incidents recorded during the ongoing political activities in the state but expressed confidence in the Command’s proactive security operations, including the recovery of arms and ammunition and other measures aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order.
The DIG praised the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, for providing purposeful leadership that has translated into notable operational successes. He also commended officers and personnel of the Command for their professionalism, discipline and dedication to duty.
Reaffirming the neutrality of the Nigeria Police Force, Adegoke stressed that the Force remains a professional and apolitical institution guided solely by the Constitution and the rule of law.
“Our allegiance is to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not to any political interest. Officers must remain impartial, disciplined and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities,” he said.
The DIG also appreciated the Osun State Government, particularly the support provided through the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, including the donation of operational vehicles and other logistics that have enhanced policing capacity in the state.
He commended members of the National Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (NARPON), the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other stakeholders for supporting community policing, intelligence gathering and public safety.
Calling for sustained collaboration, Adegoke urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, religious organisations, civil society groups and residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
As part of the visit, the DIG paid a courtesy call on the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, where he expressed appreciation to traditional rulers across Osun State for their continued support of the Police and other security agencies.
He disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police had deployed additional personnel to Osun State to strengthen security and curb emerging threats. The DIG also extended condolences to families of those who lost their lives in recent security incidents and assured residents that politics would not be allowed to disrupt the relative peace being enjoyed across the state.
Adegoke reaffirmed that under the leadership of IGP Disu, the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring lasting peace and security throughout Osun State.
