The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with separate cases of alleged murder and child abuse, while commending residents for their vigilance and cooperation in exposing criminal activities across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the arrests followed credible information provided by members of the public.

According to the statement, the first suspect, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, 33, is being investigated for the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend in Nkpor.

Police said the case came to light after concerned residents alerted security agencies, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have since taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime and ensure justice is served.

In a separate incident, police arrested three suspects over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu.

The suspects were identified as Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, and Arum Goodluck, 16.

During interrogation, police said Chisom allegedly confessed to using burning plastic to inflict severe burns on the child, who sustained multiple injuries across his body.

The victim has been provided with medical care and support, while investigators continue to gather evidence to facilitate prosecution of the suspects.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, enforcing the law, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.

He urged members of the public to sustain their support for the police and other security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities and criminal conduct through emergency lines and the nearest police stations.

The command noted that community vigilance and timely information sharing remain critical in combating crime and maintaining security across the state.
