Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties over their alleged failure to meet constitutional requirements for continued registration.
The affected parties are the Action Alliance (AA), Action Peoples Party (APP), Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
The ruling followed a suit filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators, which sought an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the parties from its register.
Justice Lifu held that the parties breached Section 225 of the Constitution and consequently directed INEC to proceed with their deregistration.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections, with the ADC recently attracting attention over reported plans involving prominent opposition figures.
