Taraba Governor Extols Late Lt. Col. Okoye’s Service, Leadership

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has expressed deep shock and sadness over the death of Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Gabriel Okoye, the Commanding Officer of the 20 Battalion, Serti, describing his passing as a painful loss to the state, the Nigerian Army, and the nation.

In a condolence message addressed to the Commander of 6 Brigade/Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Emeka Akaliro, and the family of the late officer, Governor Kefas praised Lt. Col. Okoye for his dedication, courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty.

The condolence letter, signed by the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, stated that the governor received news of the officer’s demise with great shock and sorrow.

According to the statement, Lt. Col. Okoye distinguished himself through exemplary leadership during his tenure as Commanding Officer of the 20 Battalion in Serti, where he played a significant role in maintaining peace, security, and stability in Taraba State and its environs.

“Lt. Col. Okoye served his nation with dedication, courage and professionalism, and an exceptional sense of duty,” the statement said.

The governor noted that the late officer’s life was marked by honour, sacrifice, and selfless service to humanity and the country, adding that his contributions would remain a lasting legacy.

While acknowledging the pain of the loss, Governor Kefas urged the bereaved family and the Nigerian Army to take solace in the impactful life the late officer lived.

He also prayed for God to grant the family, colleagues, and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear the loss and for the repose of the deceased officer’s soul.

The governor further assured the family and the Nigerian Army of the state government’s prayers and support during the mourning period.
