The Federal Government has issued a travel advisory for the North Central region, urging commuters and transport operators to avoid night journeys along major highways due to prevailing security concerns.
The advisory was announced on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), Dr. Abiodun Essiet, who advised travellers to exercise caution and prioritize daytime travel.
According to the statement, individuals undertaking long-distance trips within and across the region are strongly encouraged to schedule their movements during daylight hours. The government noted that recent security concerns reported along key transport corridors have increased the risks associated with night travel.
Transport operators were also advised to temporarily suspend night services until the security situation improves. The measure, according to the government, is aimed at reducing commuters’ exposure to avoidable risks while security agencies intensify monitoring and surveillance of affected routes.
The advisory further called on citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious movements or activities observed along highways and other travel routes.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Federal Government urged residents and travellers to adhere strictly to official travel and security guidelines until conditions stabilize.
The government assured the public that relevant security agencies are actively working to address the challenges and enhance safety across the region.
