Kaduna, Nigeria — The people of Southern Kaduna have conferred the prestigious title of Grand Commander of Southern Kaduna (GCSK) on Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, in recognition of his contributions to national security, peacebuilding, and national unity.
The honour was bestowed during a colourful ceremony attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, youth and religious groups, as well as residents from across Southern Kaduna and neighbouring communities.
Speaking after receiving the award, General Musa expressed gratitude to the people of Southern Kaduna for the recognition, describing the region as one endowed with immense potential and a rich history of producing distinguished citizens who have excelled in various fields of endeavour.
He dedicated the honour to all patriotic and peace-loving Nigerians, noting that the recognition serves as encouragement to continue working for the peace, security, and development of the country.
The Defence Minister urged young people in the region to remain law-abiding and shun activities capable of fueling conflict or criminality. He emphasized that security remains a collective responsibility and called on all stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in the fight against insecurity.
General Musa also commended community leaders for their contributions to intelligence gathering and encouraged them to continue providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
Highlighting the values associated with Southern Kaduna, he encouraged residents to uphold hard work, sacrifice, humility, service, and respect for the rule of law. According to him, peace, unity, and social cohesion are critical ingredients for sustainable development and national progress.
The minister further called for continued support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the Federal Government has increased its developmental presence in Southern Kaduna through various interventions over the past three years.
Earlier, Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Leaders Council, Akau Moses, described General Musa as a worthy ambassador of Southern Kaduna whose distinguished military career has brought honour to both the region and the nation.
Moses said the award was in recognition of the Defence Minister’s dedication, professionalism, courage, and patriotism, adding that his achievements in national service have earned him respect both within Nigeria and internationally.
He noted that the conferment of the GCSK title reflects the appreciation of the people of Southern Kaduna for General Musa’s contributions to national security and his role as a source of inspiration to younger generations.
The event concluded with renewed calls for unity, peace, and collective efforts toward the development and security of Southern Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole.
