Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to lead top government officials, military leaders and security experts at the public presentation of a new book on Nigeria’s counterterrorism operations in the North-East.

The book, titled Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency Operations in Northeast Nigeria, was authored by retired Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf, a former Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force and former Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

The presentation is scheduled to hold on May 21, 2026, at the Sani Abacha Hall of the National Defence College in Abuja.

Shettima is expected to attend the event as Special Guest of Honour and Chief Unveiler, alongside governors, members of the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, retired senior military officers, diplomats, scholars and other stakeholders in the security sector.

According to the organisers, the two-volume publication documents operational experiences, strategic insights and lessons learned from years of counterterrorism and counterinsurgency campaigns against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups operating in Nigeria’s North-East.

The organisers said the book is expected to contribute to national security discourse, military scholarship and the documentation of Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations.

Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, is expected to review the publication, focusing on its strategic, historical and policy relevance.

The event is also expected to provide a platform for discussions on counterterrorism operations, security sector reforms and evolving military strategies for addressing asymmetric threats in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.

Organisers urged media organisations and stakeholders in defence and security studies to participate in the event, describing it as significant to military history and ongoing national security conversations.
