The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested three persons with disabilities (PWDs) for alleged drug trafficking in separate operations across Anambra and Kwara states, while also uncovering a massive N5.8 billion Loud cannabis stash in Lekki, Lagos.
According to the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the suspects were apprehended during intelligence-led interdiction operations carried out by operatives of the anti-narcotics agency.
One of the suspects, 60-year-old Romanus Nwabara, was arrested on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Akpaka Forest in Onitsha, Anambra State. NDLEA operatives reportedly recovered 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets from him.
In another operation at Ogbunike, also in Anambra State, officers arrested 25-year-old Amos Kenneth on Thursday, May 7, with 160.3 grams of Tramadol (225mg and 100mg), 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grams of Exol 5, and 176.93 grams of skunk.
Similarly, in Kwara State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Bode Saadu intercepted a commercial vehicle on Friday, May 8, and discovered 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a brown school bag belonging to another PWD suspect, identified as Usman Salisu.
In Lagos, operatives of the agency’s Special Operations Unit raided a mansion located at 36 African Lane, Lekki Phase 1, used as a stash house for illicit drugs. During the operation conducted on Friday, May 8, officers recovered 4,000 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of imported cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilograms and valued at over N5.815 billion.
The agency also seized two Mercedes-Benz buses and several designer sachets allegedly used for packaging the drugs for retail distribution
Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives arrested Emmanuel Osita Okeke, 38, with 129 kilograms of skunk at Nyanya-Karu in Nasarawa State on Monday, May 4.
Along the Okene-Lokoja Highway in Kogi State, officers intercepted a white commuter J5 bus heading to Abuja on Friday, May 8. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilograms. Three suspects — Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa — were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In another raid at Ijora Badia, Lagos, NDLEA officers uncovered a makeshift “skuchies” production factory on Wednesday, May 6. Two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were arrested while allegedly cooking cannabis and mixing it with other illicit substances.
The operatives recovered 270 litres of already-produced skuchies and 106 grams of Tramadol 225mg from the facility.
Beyond enforcement operations, the NDLEA said its commands nationwide sustained the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaign through awareness lectures in schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities.
Some of the institutions visited during the past week include Ta’al Model Secondary School in Lafia, Nasarawa State; Federal College of Education, Ilawe Ekiti; Adventist Secondary Technical College, Owerrinta in Abia State; Golden Anchor Secondary School, Shomolu, Lagos; and Mallam Ibrahim Islamiyya School, Rano, Kano State, among others.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers of the Special Operations Unit as well as commands in Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Lagos states for the arrests and seizures.
Marwa noted that the agency’s drug supply reduction efforts were being effectively balanced with ongoing anti-drug abuse sensitization campaigns across the country and urged officers to sustain the momentum.
