IGP Disu Assures Police Veterans of Welfare Reforms, Recognition

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare and recognition of retired police officers across the country.


The IGP gave the assurance on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, while receiving a delegation from the Police Veterans Foundation at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Yesufu M.A..

During the meeting, the veterans appealed for formal institutional recognition, expanded nationwide outreach, structured welfare programmes, and the resolution of administrative challenges affecting retired officers.


In his remarks, IGP Disu commended the veterans for their continued dedication and contributions toward strengthening the Nigeria Police Force even after retirement. He encouraged them to continue mentoring younger officers and engaging retired personnel with unresolved grievances.

The police chief further assured the delegation that efforts were ongoing to improve the welfare and service conditions of personnel, noting that a revised Scheme of Service for the Force was nearing final approval.


According to the IGP, officers who devoted their lives to serving the nation would not be neglected, stressing that the Force remains committed to preserving the dignity and wellbeing of its veterans.
