The Abia State Police Command has arrested two suspected criminals linked to armed robbery, cultism, and vandalisation of government infrastructure in separate operations across the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the operations led to the recovery of firearms and other exhibits.

According to the statement, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, arrested 21-year-old Michael Kalu on May 6, 2026, at Amuma Ohafia in Abia State.

Kalu, who hails from Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, is suspected to be involved in armed robbery and cult-related activities. Police recovered one English pistol and one locally made pistol from the suspect during the operation.

In a separate operation, operatives attached to the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended 23-year-old Obinna Chimezie while allegedly vandalising a gas pipeline supplying gas to Geometric Power along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

Police said Chimezie, who resides at Borrowed Pit, off Temple Gate in Aba, was arrested with a toy gun, while a tent allegedly used for drug-related activities at the scene was destroyed.

The command stated that both suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.
