The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Genral Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to intensify ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements in the North West, reaffirming the military’s determination to restore lasting peace across the region.
General Oluyede gave the directive during an operational visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in Gusau, Zamfara State. The visit, according to a statement signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, was aimed at assessing operational readiness, addressing challenges confronting troops, and boosting morale in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.
While addressing troops, the CDS commended their resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to defending the nation. He urged them to remain disciplined, professional, and relentless in the fight against terrorism.
“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these terrorists until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all cost,” he said.
The CDS assured troops of sustained support in the areas of welfare, training, and provision of critical operational equipment to enhance efficiency in the field. He reiterated the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups until peace and stability are fully restored across the North West and beyond.
General Oluyede also highlighted the critical role of air support in ongoing operations, noting that efforts are underway to boost operational capabilities through the acquisition of additional platforms and improved inter-service coordination.
As part of the visit, the CDS paid a courtesy call on Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, where he expressed appreciation for the state government’s continued support to Operation FANSAN YAMMA and the military at large. He also called for sustained collaboration, particularly in the area of timely and credible intelligence sharing.
In his remarks, Governor Lawal commended the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and consistent efforts in tackling insecurity, expressing optimism that ongoing operations would yield lasting peace in Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
