Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have recorded significant operational successes in Kogi State, disrupting terrorists’ logistics networks and intercepting ammunition couriers in a series of intelligence-driven operations.

Over the past three months, the Brigade intensified efforts to dismantle supply routes used by criminal elements within its area of responsibility. In one such operation conducted on 29 March 2026 along the Jamata–Owara road in Lokoja Local Government Area, troops intercepted a suspected logistics courier riding a motorcycle.

A detailed search revealed the motorcycle had been specially modified with a concealed compartment designed for covert transportation of ammunition. Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, prompting follow-up operations.

In a related development, troops acting on credible intelligence on 20 April 2026 mounted a snap checkpoint at Oshokoshoko along the Obajana–Kabba road. During the operation, a Toyota bus traveling from Makurdi to Obajana was intercepted.

Two suspected logistics couriers, identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi, were arrested during the operation. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat.

Additional items recovered include two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip, and an identity card.

Earlier, troops had also apprehended a high-profile ammunition courier, Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, who had been on security watchlists.

All suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation and necessary action.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, stated that the operations highlight the sustained vigilance and proactive posture of troops in denying terrorists freedom of movement and dismantling their logistics networks across the state.
