Residents of Achida community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State have repelled a bandit attack in a coordinated act of self-defence, resulting in the death of one suspected assailant.
Security and local sources said the incident occurred when armed bandits invaded the community but were met with swift resistance from residents and local vigilante groups, who mobilised to confront the attackers.
The villagers reportedly engaged the assailants in a brief confrontation, forcing them to retreat from the area.
During the exchange, one of the suspected bandits was neutralised, while others fled the scene, some believed to have sustained injuries.
Sources commended the courage and unity displayed by the residents, particularly members of the vigilante group, in defending the community against the нападение.
Security authorities are expected to intensify patrols and conduct follow-up operations in the area to forestall further attacks and apprehend fleeing suspects.
