Police Intercept Cocaine Hidden in Bulbs, Recover Pump-Action Gun in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on crime, intercepting illicit drugs concealed in unusual items and recovering a firearm linked to a murder and cultism case.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol (SHP) on April 13, 2026, intercepted a Sienna bus along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road during a routine but intelligence-driven operation.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of hard drugs cleverly hidden inside electric energy-saving bulbs. The substances recovered include 490 grams of suspected cocaine and 4 grams of “loud,” a strain of cannabis. Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were being transported to Abuja, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects connected to the shipment.

In a related development, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) recorded another success the same day, recovering a pump-action gun with three rounds of live cartridges in the Ekigbo area of Ughelli.

The firearm is linked to an earlier case involving conspiracy, cultism, and the murder of one Alex Adanike on January 15, 2026. Police disclosed that three suspects have already been arrested, charged to court, and remanded, while a fourth suspect, identified as Eddy Onose, remains at large.

Investigations revealed that the fleeing suspect, allegedly associated with the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, abandoned the weapon after realizing he was being tracked. Security operatives, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, have intensified efforts to apprehend him and recover additional evidence.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the dismantling of criminal networks. He also called on residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with credible information.
