The Federal Government has assured families of military and police personnel killed in a recent attack in Kebbi State of its continued support, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of security personnel and their loved ones.
Vice President Kashim Shettima gave the assurance on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a condolence visit to Kebbi State on Tuesday.
The Vice President led a federal delegation to Birnin Kebbi, where he met with Governor Nasir Idris following the killing of security officers in Shanga Local Government Area. He also conveyed condolences over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt.
Speaking during the visit, Shettima stressed that the sacrifices of fallen officers would not be in vain, noting that the Tinubu administration remains committed to supporting both their families and affected communities.
“We are here at the behest of Mr President to commiserate with you and the good people of Kebbi State over these tragic developments. Our hearts are with you,” he said.
He disclosed that President Tinubu has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to the bereaved families and displaced communities affected by the attack.
According to him, the Federal Government is taking steps to ensure adequate support systems are in place, including humanitarian assistance and measures to restore normalcy in impacted areas.
The Vice President also commended Governor Idris for strides in infrastructure and education, describing his leadership as inclusive and impactful over the past three years.
In his remarks, Governor Idris said security agencies in the state are intensifying efforts to address the challenges, adding that coordination between federal and state authorities has improved in recent times. He revealed that the state government had donated N60 million to families of the slain officers.
The governor further noted that communities displaced by bandit attacks have been resettled, with additional security measures introduced to prevent future incidents.
Also speaking, the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sanusi Mikailu Sami, called for peace and unity, offering prayers for the deceased and for stability across the state and the country.
