Nigerian Navy Arrests Suspected Pipeline Vandalism Kingpin In Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta, with the arrest of a suspected syndicate leader in Bayelsa State.

According to a statement issued on April 28, 2026, by Abiodun Folorunsho, personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO carried out a coordinated raid on April 25 at about 3:00 a.m. in Egbama-Angalabiri, Ekeramo Local Government Area.

The operation, driven by credible intelligence, led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Mr. Godwin, popularly known as “Idiot,” who is believed to be the leader of a notorious pipeline vandalism syndicate operating along the Clough Creek axis.

Naval authorities said the arrest followed sustained surveillance that confirmed the suspect’s involvement in recent attacks on oil and gas infrastructure. He was apprehended at a nearby night market, where he was allegedly extorting illegal levies from traders.

During a follow-up operation at the suspect’s residence, naval personnel encountered armed resistance from members of the syndicate. The situation was, however, brought under control through a swift tactical response, forcing the attackers to retreat.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of two handheld radios and other technical tools linked to illegal activities. Further intelligence exploitation resulted in the arrest of another suspect, identified as Mr. Happiness, believed to be an accomplice. A pump-action gun was also recovered during the operation.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation and prosecution.

The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain and critical infrastructure, warning that it will continue to intensify operations against economic sabotage in collaboration with other security agencies.
