The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of air power in counter-insurgency operations through strengthened Air-to-Ground Integration (AGI).
This was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Director General, Air Power Centre of Excellence, Air Vice Marshal PO Obeya, to the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC) on April 17, 2026
During the visit, AVM Obeya and the Commandant of AWDC, Air Vice Marshal GI Jibia, held strategic discussions aimed at advancing modern air warfare practices, improving joint operations, and strengthening doctrinal frameworks. A key focus was the refinement of AGI processes to ensure seamless coordination between air and ground forces in complex operational environments.
The NAF noted that effective synchronization of close air support, surveillance, and rapid response missions with ground manoeuvres remains critical in addressing asymmetric threats.
The initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to drive innovation, operational excellence, and continuous professional development within the Service.
The visit underscores the NAF’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational readiness, deepen capacity building, and strengthen its role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
