The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has reaffirmed that sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders remains essential to securing Nigeria’s maritime environment.
The CNS made this known on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, while receiving the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of New Guard Security & Consultancy Services Limited (NGSCL), Major General Jamil Sarham (Rtd), during a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
In a press statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the NGSCL CEO explained that the company serves as a coordinating interface between government security agencies and Private Security Companies (PSCs), with a mandate to standardise operations, strengthen regulatory compliance, and promote synergy within the nation’s security architecture.
He disclosed that the company has established a Project Management Office and has commenced full operations, adding that ongoing engagements have significantly reduced operational frictions between PSCs and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Sarham also commended the Nigerian Navy for its professionalism and sustained operations against crude oil theft, noting that such efforts have contributed to improved oil production and enhanced national economic stability.
Responding, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas welcomed the initiative and stressed the need for institutionalised collaboration in tackling evolving maritime security challenges.
He observed that previous areas of friction with private security operators had been significantly minimised and assured NGSCL of the Nigerian Navy’s continued support in strengthening coordinated mechanisms aimed at protecting critical national assets and sustaining maritime security across Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The meeting further underscored the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships with both public and private stakeholders as part of broader efforts to secure the nation’s waters and boost economic resilience.
