Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed scores of terrorists and recovered a cache of weapons after foiling an attempted attack on a Nigerian Army Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, the headquarters of Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
Military sources told SpyeTV News that the terrorists, suspected to be members of ISWAP and Boko Haram, launched the assault in the early hours of Sunday, 1 March 2026. The attackers reportedly advanced in large numbers, armed with several PKT machine guns, RPG-7 launchers, armed drones, and poisoned arrows in what appeared to be a coordinated attempt to infiltrate the base.
According to the sources, the terrorists carried out a two-pronged attack on troops at the FOB but were met with stiff resistance. The soldiers responded swiftly with heavy firepower, forcing the attackers to withdraw in disarray after suffering significant casualties.
Following the failed attack, troops conducted exploitation operations along several withdrawal routes used by the terrorists. During the clearance, soldiers discovered bloodstains and drag marks on the sand, indicating that the fleeing insurgents evacuated their dead and wounded.
However, some terrorist corpses were recovered, alongside weapons and equipment abandoned during their retreat. Items captured include two AK-47 rifles, two anti-tank bombs, one locally fabricated mortar bomb, one armed drone, a fully loaded 7.62mm NATO magazine, four barbed wire cutters, seven rounds of 7.62/54 special ammunition, 30 arrow spears, two pairs of slippers, and one stretcher.
Sources added that troops are continuing exploitation in the area, with more bodies and weapons expected to be recovered.
The successful defence of the Gajiram base underscores the sustained operational momentum of Operation Hadin Kai and the resilience of troops in countering terrorist threats in the North-East region.
